ABOUT US
COMMUNITY
Thelen Sand & Gravel prides itself on being a community supporter. We work with our neighbors to address any and all concerns regarding our business processes. Our goal is to maintain a mutually beneficial relationship with our neighbors. We vow to help the communities in which we reside prosper and grow.
Thelen Sand and Gravel is committed to protecting the environments in which we do business. The “reclamation process” has become a very important key to our company’s business plan.
The “reclamation process” is simply the transformation of the land which we’ve mined into suitable and useful options for the community. The mined land is reclaimed with clean clay and topsoil before being transformed into parks that are donated back to the communities. We also intend our properties to be developed, both residentially and commercially, in order to help the communities grow and prosper for the years ahead.
Thelen Sand & Gravel regularly participates in holiday events and community festivals. Several years ago the company even acquired a team of Haflinger horses and commissioned a craftsman to design and build a custom hitch wagon, similar to the one Vern Thelen used to deliver gravel to his family and neighbors. Jack Thelen, Vern's oldest son, trains the horses and drives the team, Babe & Digger, for appearances in many community events.
Groups and school tours are always welcomed at Thelen. These educational opportunities are unique because glacial deposits are best studied under actual active mining conditions. We organize tours for the youngest of miners to college-aged geology students. Request for tours may be directed to Jack Thelen at the Antioch Office.
